Topic #9: Trip to Storforsen 3 Oct, part 1
Storforsen 3 October the international office organized a trip to what they called 'The largest waterfall of North Europe' (Storforsen). I guess the word 'rapids' would describe this place better. Nonetheless, it was a very entertaining day and a great way to see something of the Swedish countryside. Its about 100km away from Luleå I think.

After we left Storforsen we visited the local cultural heritage site Gammelstad. It is actually the old town of Luleå before it got moved. The ice created a big depression in the earth. After the last ice age ended, the land is coming up slowly with rates around a centimeter per year I think. Old Luleå used to be at the sea, but the rising land placed it more inlands. That's why the city moved to its current location.
